She's getting pulled on Monday, so I had one last chance to get wet this year. Myself, my girlfriend and one other experienced sailor had a pretty good go of it. I would say it was blowing 25-35 Knots out there. Outside Temp was 42, water temp around 50. We all got wet, put the rail in the water, enjoyed the geese flying over, the beautiful mountains, and reveled in the cold afternoon.
My girlfriend was pretty nervous the whole time, as it is only her second time sailing...ever. The first was in 5-knot winds one nice summer day. This was a bit of a change.
The other guy I was with is a very experienced racer. I have been sailing on his Melges 24 (we got it up to 20 knots the other day...) and he has owned a slew of go fast boats including a J30 among others. He was very impressed with the way the Folkboat handled. Light in the helm, reasonably quick, a very nice motion, and pretty wet. We took lots of water in, but that was part of the fun. A hot shower and a few beers later and everything is good.
There is one last toughguy in the harbor that I'm friends with, and we will be sailing his J30 well into December.
Good fun is still to be had.
