Boat
Information:
Construction:
Carvel 15/16" mahogany planks on steam-bent white-oak frames;
white-oak horn timber, deadwood, and keel plank; silicon
bronze refastened 7 years ago, furthermore the Keel bolts
are Stainless Steel and have also been recently replaced.
Plywood deck with West System™ Fiberglass and a 1/2" sprung
Teak deck installed 7 years ago, and in excellent condition.
Tiller steering to keel-hung rudder. Last year the boat
was completely taken down to bare wood below the water line,
all seams were reefed and recaulked, and 2 planks were replaced
in the bow. There was no rot found on the hull, and the
general condition is very good.
Sails and Rigging:
Masthead-rig sloop (mast height approx. 48' from waterline),
stainless steel standing rigging to bronze turnbuckles,
3 halyard winches on mast and 4 bronze sheet winches (two
self tailing) in cockpit. Bronze Genoa tracks and 2 snatch
blocks as well as genoa leads and turning blocks. Original
boom installed on a Proctor Aluminum mast. There is a fixed
backstay, and no running backs or check stays to worry about!
The Main (2 reinforced reef points), Jib and Genoa are all
in excellent condition. Also included is a cruising asymmetrical
spinnaker with chute scoop. The mainsail has a max hoist
of 40'6" and a min hoist of 38'6". The foot of
the main is 14'1" max to 12''9" min (16"
outhaul travel). The "J" dimension (distance from
forestay to mast) is 14'. Bronze stanchion with SS lifelines.
Engine:
Universal 18hp Diesel with aprox. 500 hours on it. The engine
is freshwater cooled, and runs like at top. The engine drives
a 3 bladed propeller. The boat cruises at 6.5 knots and
tops out at 7.5. Both forward and reverse have excellent
torque and the boat is moved very nicely with this motor.
Furthermore it is quite and vibration free. I recently replaced
the water pump impeller, oil, filters and more. She also
has a new Racor fuel filter fitted. There is good access
to the engine, and it is a very clean installation. Complete
Manuals are included.
Electrical:
12V starting and house system, new (less than 10 hours)
Balmar 80 amp engine-driven alternator with Balmar ARS-4
external smart regulator. 3 batteries, fused distribution
panel. New Battery Selector Switch. The two group 29 110amp
hour house batteries which were replaced in July '04. All
the wiring is marine grade, and in good shape. No loose
wires or dead ends. Bronze Halogen lights.
Ground Tackle:
35-lb. CQR anchor with bow roller, 35' of chain, and 300ft
nylon anchor rode
Accommodations and Equipment: Layout
Plan here
From Bow to Stern: Anchor and sail storage is all the way
forward, followed by a V Berth with drawers underneath.
V Berth cushions are green velvet. Moving back: To port
is an enclosed head with never used Lavac head and sink.
To starboard is a hanging locker. The main salon has two
bunks on either side with storage under and outside of those
bunks. There is a removable folding mahogany table. The
galley is equipped with an stainless steel lined ice box,
sink, pressure cold water in both galley and head, and a
"Sea Swing" single burner propane stove.
The
interior of Roshika is very clean and has a wonderful warm
feeling. She has cream colored bulkheads, varnished cabin
beams, and a teak and holly sole. There is a wonderful mahogany
opening hatch above the table that lets in great light or
cool breezes. There are 6 bronze opening ports with screens.
The forward berths have fitted cushions of green velvet,
and there are many pillows similarly covered. The main settee's
are covered in a more wear friendly cloth. As noted above,
the Lavac head is brand new and never used. There is also
a new holding tank and plumbing. There is room in the
galley to install a fixed stove if desired.
The Cockpit has seats on either side with lockers underneath.
There is a bronze binnacle and compass with cockpit table
that currently isn't mounted but would easily be done. There
are 2 Dordade Vents with bronze funnel vents, and 3 other
bronze vents, so there is excellent ventilation for her
while at anchor, which I'm sure has helped keep her in top
condition.

- Sail Covers
- Bronze Bow and Stern Rails and Lifelines
- Bronze stanchions and bases

Condition:
Though Roshika is 51 years old she has aged well. Her plank
fastenings are all Silicon Bronze Screws and these were
replaced roughly 7 years ago. They all look good and hold
well. The bottom is fair with no hard spots or nasty places.
The rudder is in excellent shape as well. Last year I took
the bottom (below the water line) down to bare wood, and
everything was in excellent shape. I found no traces of
rot. I sanded down most of the top sides last spring as
well and they were in good condition. I did find one funky
place up in the port bow, so I promptly replaced those two
planks. In the exterior photo section you can see the planking
that was replaced. Other than the rot that was dealt with,
all the planking is in great shape.
The
ribs are in very good shape, and all the floors are in good
shape with no rot or iron sickness. The iron ballast is
bolted through the keel plank with Stainless Steel bolts
and these are in great shape. The sprung teak decks are
in excellent shape, and were replaced about 7 years ago.
The teak has no leaks, and the marine ply underneath was
fiberglassed first. All in all a top job. The cabin top
is dynel over cedar, and has just been painted. It doesn't
leak or have any rot present.
Roshika now has 8 coats of varnish on all her bright work
and is gleaming. Furthermore she has new bottom and topsides
paint, and looks great.
I have also repainted much of the interior. She is ready
to sail with all systems worked out and functioning well.
I think she is an excellent boat for the money, and a wonderful
boat that will make her new owners extremely happy.
